Membership in Manitoba Horse Council automatically provides members with the following insurance coverage (unless otherwise stated in a Membership category).
Coverage is in excess of any other insurance you carry or is primary if you have no other insurance that could apply. The policy is in effect from the date of purchase (receipt of payment) until December 31, 2018.
Adult Membership (Competitive)
$60.50 for adult competitive riders 18+ on January 1, 2018
Youth Membership (Competitive)
$49.50 for youth competitive riders under 18 on January 1, 2018
Family Membership (Competitive)
$121 for the first two members. Can be two adults, or an adult and a youth – plus $20 for each additional youth after the first two members. One of the adults must be a parent or legal guardian of the youth(s).
A recreation membership is for people who do not compete in any format (even fun shows count as competing). The membership can be upgraded to a full competitive membership at any time during the year for $22 (Adult) or $11 (Youth). Please call the office.
Adult/Youth Membership (Recreation)
$38.50 for adult or youth regardless.
Family Membership (Recreation)
$77 for the first two members (as regular Family membership) plus $20 for each additional youth after the first two members.
$49.50. A reduced rate membership for individuals between the ages of 70 and 90 as of January 1st, 2018, and who are still active with horses
Includes all benefits; policy maximum is age 90. Note that those over age 70 may also apply for a Family membership as above.
Friends of Horses Membership
$27.50. A reduced rate membership intended for individuals who are non-riders/non-drivers/non-competitors, who are not active in daily equine activities, or who are volunteers.
Includes liability insurance benefits only.
Temporary Membership (Temporary Event/Competition Fee)
$35 per event. Must be purchased from either the MHC office OR the show organizer prior to participating in the event/competition.
Show organizers must submit completed forms and appropriate payment to MHC promptly after the event/competition.
Provides liability insurance coverage to the individual for the event/competition for which the membership was purchased only. No other benefits apply (insurance or otherwise).
$70.50 for adults; $59.50 for youth. An extended membership for those applying for a new membership or renewing a lapsed membership after August 31, 2017. The extended membership runs from the day of receipt of payment until December 31, 2018.

RIDE AND DRIVE PROGRAM
Recreational members only: sign up for the Ride & Drive program and get rewards for spending time with your horse. No charge, but members must be registered prior to starting to record their hours.
CASUAL RIDING AT MHC FACILITY, BIRDS HILL PARK
$35. Flat riding only, no lessons. Ring 5, Tuesday and Wednesday between May 1 and September 31. Proof of current negative Coggins Test is required at the beginning of the season.
$24 Annual subscription to Canadian Horse Journal.
Additional Insurance Choices
Individual and/or family members of Manitoba Horse Council (MHC) who are resident in Canada are eligible to purchase the following optional insurance benefits. These coverages can be added to your MHC membership either online or by submitting the Membership Application form. All insurance programs are provided by Capri Insurance.
Optional insurance policies are non-refundable and expire December 31st of each year. Available to Canadian residents only.
Available Optional Insurance Add Ons for MHC members
Enhanced Accidental Death & Dismemberment – includes limited Fracture and Dental Benefits – $30.00 Individual
Provides an ADDITIONAL $50,000 Principal Sum AD&D and includes limited fracture and accidental dental benefits (Fracture up to $7500 with helmet / $2500 no helmet; Accidental Dental – up to $5000). Members must be under the age of 75 to qualify for this coverage.

Members Named Perils – $15.00
Coverage for your own horses(s) in case of death resulting from one of the perils named in the policy, some of which are fire, lightning, collision/overturn of a conveyance in which a horse is being transported, attack by a dog or wild animal, windstorm, drowning, collapse of a building, and more. This insures up to a maximum of $10,000 and can be applied regardless of the number of horses owned. Losses are restricted to one claim per year. The Members Named Perils policy will include compensation for government ordered destruction of horse.

Equine Emergency Life Saving Surgery – $40.00
This new policy covers Equine Emergency Life Saving Surgery necessitated by accident or sickness, including colic surgery and fracture surgery, to a maximum limit of $2,500 for expenses incurred ($250 deductible). PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT a life insurance policy; NO DEATH BENEFIT is payable under this policy. This policy is restricted to one claim per year and must be purchased by the member who is the owner of the horse(s). To purchase this optional insurance, the member must also purchase 2018 Members Named Perils.

Travel Insurance (out of Province/Country) - $115.00
$2,000,000 out of Province/Country coverage for Medical/Hospitalization. Trips up to 90 days in duration, any number of trips/year, worldwide and, DOES NOT EXCLUDE participation in and/or preparing for most equine activity/competition. Many policies in the market do exclude such activity. NOTE: ALL covered individuals must have current MHC membership and be under age 75 (coverage terminates at 12:01 a.m. on date of 75th birthday). Policy contains pre-existing medical conditions clause.
2018 travel insurance must be purchased PRIOR to date of departure from province/territory of residence and date of departure from your province/territory of residence must be on or after January 1, 2018. If you are travelling from 2018 into 2019, please contact the MHC office or Capri Insurance Equine Department for terms and conditions.

Members Tack – $35.00
Broad coverage insurance for your tack up to $10,000 per member year subject to a $500 deductible for each claim. Need to increase coverage? This can be done. Contact Capri Insurance for more information at 1-800-670-1877 (Equine Department). (Tack Insurance excludes horse drawn vehicles, carts, sleighs, carriages, articles of clothing or protective equipment worn by riders).
Weekly Accident Indemnity – $150.00
Provides income replacement in the event the member is unable to work due to an accident which includes, but is not limited to, injuries arising from an equine related accident. Coverage provides up to a maximum of $500 per week for a maximum of 26 weeks (some restrictions apply). To qualify, you must be a resident of Canada, be an MHC member, be employed full time (minimum 25 hours with a single employer), be under the age of 70, and filed an income tax return with Revenue Canada in the most recent tax year. Separate application/waiver form must be completed, signed and returned with payment to obtain this benefit.

MHC conforms with PIPEDA with regard to appropriate use and storage of private information. Your personal membership information will not be sold or leased to third parties. Your contact information will be provided to Equestrian Canada (EC) for the purposes outlined below.
Membership with Equestrian Canada
MHC is a participating Provincial Sport Organization of EC and remits a percentage of each MHC membership to EC to support national and provincial objectives. MHC membership information may be shared with EC solely for the purpose of EC’s direct contact with MHC members.
EC Member Benefits Program
EC Sport License holders in good standing have access to a number of discounts through EC sponsors. Non-EC Sport License holders may pay an annual fee to participate in this program. The sponsors and their discounts are listed on the Equestrian Canada website
Sport Manitoba is our major funding partner and support. All MHC members are eligible to apply for Sport Manitoba grants. Grants are available in a number of areas but criteria for eligibility have changed for 2017/2018; please check our website and/or contact the MHC Office for more details.
All MHC members have access to Sport Manitoba Print Shop Services at a discounted rate and access to Sport Manitoba meeting rooms at no charge provided the use is for equestrian sport-related activities. Contact the MHC Office for more details.
All MHC members are eligible to participate in member-only programs that MHC provides locally. These include Theory courses, Coach Updates, Officials Updates, Athlete Development courses/clinics, Recreation programs, and more. MHC member athletes are also eligible for participation in MHC’s annual Manitoba Equestrian Championship.
MHC Equestrian Centre at Birds Hill Park
Event booking. All MHC members receive preferential access for bookings at the MHC Equestrian Centre and trails located in Birds Hill Park.
Casual Riding at the Equestrian Centre. This feature allows access to Ring 5 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between May 1 and September 31, for $35.00 per membership year. No jumping or lessons allowed. Standard arena etiquette applies. Proof of current negative Coggins Test is required at the beginning of the season.
Canadian Horse Journal Magazine
All MHC members are eligible for a preferential purchase rate for this well respected magazine. $24.00 per year, including applicable taxes. The magazine carries news from Manitoba and Manitoba Horse Council in each issue.
Ride & Drive Program
Recreational members can sign up for the Ride & Drive program, to get rewards for spending time with their horse. No sign-up charge, but must be registered prior to starting to record activities.
