Manitoba joined the rest of Canada in celebrating the 10th annual Horse Day on June 2, 2018. Over 6,000 people participated and attended 75 Horse Day events from coast-to-coast.
For many Canadians, Horse Day is the chance to get up close and personal with a horse for the first time. It’s also the perfect opportunity to acknowledge the important contributions made by horses in our nation's heritage and how people of all ages and experience levels can continue to enjoy horses in sport and leisure.
Here in Manitoba, eight organizations took part in Horse Day. MHC stepped up to the mounting block with a photo contest, encouraging people across the province to participate in a Horse Day event and snap a pic for the contest. Nearly 30 people participated and captured beautiful moments with friends, family and – most importantly – horses. The rainy weather didn’t dampen the smiles.
At MHC, we were also smiling ear to ear all weekend – we loved seeing your Horse Day moments. Click below to view a video featuring all the photos we received!
Cavalia Odysseo joined in the fun by supplying our contest prize – two tickets to the show. Jenni J Ducharme submitted the winning photo of daughter Daisy and her horse Goldie.
We know a lot of people were eager to get tickets to Cavalia, so be sure to check out https://cavalia.com/acrobat to get a fourth ticket free when you buy three.
Here’s what we heard from the clubs and organizations that registered their events for Horse Day:
“West Wind Stables Celebrated Horse day by hosting a Client Appreciation BBQ. We had 40 Clients and their families attend. Despite the cooler weather that Mother Nature had provided, we held the event inside our large viewing area, in warmth. It was a great opportunity for students who only come on a weekly basis to meet some of the horse owners and riders from other nights. Lots of socialization and food was had.” – Chris
“The Prairie Skye Equestrian Drill Team made their debut performance at the Stonewall Horse Show on June 3rd. Two horses and riders and two support members were in attendance. The team is made up of horses of many breeds and ages, and team members from 17 years old to 60+. It was great fun for all the team members and the audience responded with appreciation for the great effort by the team.” – Angela
“The South Interlake Rockwood Agricultural Society (SIRAS) held its annual Horse Show & Fair on June 2nd & 3rd. We had over 80 competitors and 31 Western & English classes on the Saturday and another 21 classes on Sunday. The Stonewall Light Horse Show is the 1st show of the year on the North Interlake Show Circuit and is always held on the 1st weekend in June. Please visit us at stonewallhorseshow.weebly.com or on Facebook www.facebook.com/StonewallHorseShow/ and www.facebook.com/southinterlakerockwoodagsociety.” – Cheryl
“Hi Point Horsemanship had lots of fun building on skills and learning new ones. Be sure to check out the great pic of our three youngest participants (left to right) Raeley and Lucky, Olivia and Scooter, and Ella and Jerry.” – Rachel
Thank you to Manitoba Hunter Jumper Association, Manitoba Quarter Horse Association, Tack in the Box and the Distance Riders of Manitoba for registering their events for Horse Day too.
