The purpose of the Athlete Travel Grant is to provide financial assistance to individual athletes in their quest to achieve excellence in equestrian sport. The grant is designed to assist with travel costs associated with their competition at national or international event.
The athletes must have won their way or been selected to attend the national or international event by the event organizer(s). This grant excludes professional athletes in the sport.
· All applicants must be members of MHC
· All applicants must be permanent residents of Manitoba and Canadian citizens.
· All applicants must complete Respect in Sport training and submit a copy of the completion certificate.
· Applicants must be actively competing in the year of application in recognized EC, NRHA, FEI or other such events as accredited by a discipline or breed association.
· Provide a list of the qualifying events
· Provide a list of the results in the national or international event.
Funding Use
· To be used towards competition fees and travel costs (flights, accommodations, meals, etc.)
· Funds cannot be used to attend training
· Funds cannot be used towards travel costs for persons accompanying the athlete

Funding Frequency
Only one application can be submitted per athlete per fiscal year (Jan 1 – Dec 31)
Applicants who have received funding in previous years should not assume funding each year
Endorsement/Special Conditions
Proof of qualifying or having been selected to attend the competition by the event organizer(s) is required.
Approval Process and Procedures
1. Applications will be reviewed by MHC staff and recommendations made to the board of directors for final approval.
2. If approved, the funds will be sent to the athlete by the end of November.
Documents Required for Application to be considered complete:
o Completed and signed application form
o Financial information including trip budget (receipts required with final report) demonstrating need for financial assistance.
o Proof the athlete has either qualified to, or been selected to, attend the national or international event.
o Results from the national or international event if it occurs before the October 31 application deadline.
