App Launch Marks Emergency Preparedness Week: Naylor

The Manitoba government is launching the MB Ready app and recognizing Emergency Preparedness Week from May 3 to 9 by encouraging Manitobans to take steps to ensure their families, neighbours and communities are ready in the event of an emergency, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor, minister responsible for the Emergency Management Organization (EMO), announced today.

“Emergency Preparedness Week is a reminder of the importance of preparation in helping keep all Manitobans safe, and this year we are pleased to announce the rollout of the new MB Ready app to support that effort,” said Naylor. “Planning ahead makes a real difference during emergencies, and this app will help keep Manitobans informed with clear, accessible and up-to-date information.”

Emergency Preparedness Week is a national initiative co-ordinated by Public Safety Canada in partnership with provinces, territories and municipalities. In Manitoba, the EMO plays a central role in disaster preparedness by supporting communities, co-ordinating emergency response efforts and promoting public awareness of emergency risks.

As part of this year’s Emergency Preparedness Week activities, Manitobans are encouraged to use MB Ready, Manitoba’s public emergency information platform. The platform is now available as a mobile app in both official languages.

MB Ready provides real-time, location‑based notifications for emergencies and incidents such as severe weather, wildfires, floods, road closures and power outages. Users can set alerts for specific addresses or geographic areas, allowing them to stay informed about conditions that may affect their home, workplace or other important locations.

MB Ready also includes guidance on building emergency kits, creating household emergency plans, understanding local risks and accessing safety information during emergencies. To access MB Ready, download the app or visit https://manitoba-emo.github.io/mbready-appredirect/.

Manitobans are invited to use Emergency Preparedness Week to review or create an emergency plan, update emergency kits and discuss preparedness with family members, neighbours and co‑workers.
