Important Alert: Trailer Incident Western Dressage National Championships

On Monday, October 5, four horses travelling via trailer from Calgary to Langley were involved in a single-vehicle crash roughly 40 km east of Revelstoke, BC on Highway 1. Three horses died and the fourth horse was injured.
Two of the horses that died were owned by Solace Stables in Headingley, MB. Fearless and Rosaria were set to compete in the EC Dressage National Championships with their riders - Mackenzie Abbott and Kate Wall. Flirtation, the third horse from Manitoba, owned by Katherine Page, was injured in the incident and is being treated in a Kelowna vet clinic.
The third horse that died, Clark, was owned by Sheila Duchek of Okotoks, AB. He was also going to compete in the National Championships.
The driver of the trailer was also injured and transported to hospital from the scene. She has since been released and is recovering at home.
There has been an outpouring of support across Manitoba and Canada for the owners, athletes, families and the entire support team surrounding these beloved horses. Equestrian Canada has reached out to the riders and owners involved to extend mental health and grief support.
