AQHLead Program-Manitoba Representation
Madison Leonard had the privilege of attending the American Quarter Horse Association Convention in Las Vegas from March 12–16 through the AQHLead program, a leadership initiative designed for young adults in the horse industry. The convention brings together owners, breeders, and trainers from around the world to discuss AQHA business and vote on rule change proposals that shape the future of the industry.
Madison currently serves on the AQHA Amateur Committee, where they review and provide input on proposals submitted by members that directly impact amateur exhibitors. She began my term in 2025, which will run through 2028. This role provides the opportunity to represent and advocate for non-professional competitors.
One of the most notable updates discussed at this year’s convention was a structural change affecting Canadian members. Beginning January 1, 2027, Canada will transition from being classified as an international affiliate to a domestic affiliate within AQHA. This change intends to expand support and opportunities for Canadian members.
Attending Convention provides valuable insight into how decisions are made at the association level, as well as the opportunity to connect with industry leaders and fellow members. Madison looks forward to continuing to represent our horse community and contributing to discussions that support the growth and success of AQHA members.
The 2027 Convention will be held again at the South Point Hotel and Equestrian Center in Las Vegas in March. She would be happy to connect with anyone interested in attending.
